Defend Tibetan Identity: Join the Peaceful London Protest Against the PRC’s Ethnic Unity Law – 1 July 2026

London, 23 June 2026 | GATPM

Tibetans, friends and supporters of Tibet, as well as all who stand for human rights and fundamental freedoms, are invited to join a peaceful protest outside the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in London on 1 July 2026, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

This demonstration is organised in response to the recently adopted Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress, passed by the National People’s Congress on 12 March 2026 and due to come into effect on 1 July 2026. The law has raised deep concern among Tibetan diaspora communities and human rights advocates due to its far-reaching implications for cultural rights, linguistic diversity, religious freedom, and the survival of distinct minority identities within the PRC.

This London protest is led by the Tibetan Community in Britain and supported by Tibet-related and human rights organisations, including Free Tibet, Voluntary Tibet Advocacy Group (V-TAG), Students for a Free Tibet (UK), and the Global Alliance for Tibet & Persecuted Minorities.

This gathering follows concerns expressed in the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile Resolution on the Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress, which warns that the legislation undermines constitutionally guaranteed autonomy and accelerates policies that threaten the preservation of Tibet’s distinct cultural, linguistic, and religious identity. The resolution calls for urgent international scrutiny and coordinated action.

Speakers from Tibetan and human rights organisations will address the gathering, followed by peaceful chanting and collective expressions of solidarity. This is a static, peaceful demonstration lasting two hours, intended to provide space for reflection, awareness, and a unified public voice.

We call on our friends and allies to stand together with us in London on 1 July 2026.
